How It All Began...
Kappa Lambda Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. was founded on October 7, 2003, by eight women from the University of Maryland, College Park, and the Long Island University of Brooklyn, NY. This sorority became one of the most diverse multicultural sororities of its kind. Using the concepts of "Unity in Diversity" and "Breaking Down Barriers", the eight founding mothers embarked upon a journey to promote the strong roots of stepping out of the shadows of the pre-existing cultural barriers, and using each individual's differences to form a stronger bond of sisterhood.

Our Mission
The sisters of Kappa Lambda Xi Sorority recognize that diversity is not limited to race, and are proud to acknowledge that a diverse sisterhood can be attained with respect to religious heritage, geographic origin, political ideology, nationality, and socio-economic class; not just race. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for collegiate women and the community by recognizing each other's unique qualities and by building upon them.
The dedicated ladies of Kappa Lambda Xi Sorority are intent on their mission to eradicate pre-existing notions of prejudice, discrimination, and false pride on campus and in the surrounding community through the strong bonds of sisterhood. The young women are expected to instill in their hearts the meaning of sisterhood. They are expected, as they grow and bloom, to become sisters in mind and spirit, sisters with grace and integrity, and sisters who become the leaders of tomorrow.
While other Greek organizations are and continue to grow more diverse, this sorority explicitly seeks out members with multicultural ideals and interests. The founders envisioned this sorority as a vehicle to educate the surrounding campus and community on issues of diversity. Through our inner strength and our bond of sisterhood, we will continue to break down barriers and to exceed all expectations.

Kappa Lambda Xi recognizes diversity in many aspects of life, and are proud to have a diverse sisterhood with respect to religious heritage, geographic origin, political ideology, nationality, sexuality, and socio-economic class. Knowing and understanding each other's differences makes our sisterhood stronger; we come together to build a network of educated women that bring diverse backgrounds and experiences to the table. We understand that the real world is not comprised of a single race, culture or people. It is an array of customs and traditions with roots embedded in every continent, and every population. Because of this, we will continue to strive toward our goals of expansion and will continue to welcome dedicated eligible women into our sisterhood who will learn from us, share our allegiance to our philanthropy and contribute to our growing Diaspora.
